After climbing 70 m over the previous kilometre, I stopped here for a moment. Even compared to the minimal noise of the bike, the quiet was striking. Apart from Barbon Beck (in the trees on the left), nothing; even the grasshoppers were silent.
See the white patches (bare soil) at the edge of the road, straight ahead? See the area of brown grass between the road and the wall, just by the second bare patch? See the circular sheepfold in that brown grass? No, nor me, from this image. If I'd known at the time that it was an Andy Goldsworthy sheepfold, I'd have taken another photo.
