River Roeburn, Middle Wood, Roeburndale, near Lancaster, UK, 28 August, 2004
Note that the roots have been scoured and woody debris deposited well above the normal flow level of the river.
In 1967, an August rainstorm caused severe flooding of the Roeburn. I believe a building was damaged at Middle Wood, but the village of Wray, further down the valley, was devastated – the bridge and a whole terrace of cottages were destroyed. |
