I can just about remember visiting the Institute (the village hall or community centre) at least once as a child, for nursery school (aka kindergarten, nowadays). I'm not sure why, as Northop Hall, my home village, had its own Miners' Institute, where I normally attended nursery school.
The Institute was built for the village in 1932 by Sir John Eldon Bankes in memory of his late wife, though a few years later the main hall was commandeered by the Ministry of Defence during the Second World War for storage of aircraft parts used by the Broughton factory.
