It's an impressive building, in a weird way. I've no idea whether this is Heysham 'A' or 'B', but as the previous image shows, there are two reactor buildings (actually four Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors in two adjacent stations) on-site. Their collective output of 2400 MW could match 150% of the electricity demand of Manchester, or most of North West England A long-haired cyclist with a camera (me) was the only traffic in sight of the main gate on a Sunday afternoon, so I didn't hang around long enough for the bored security staff to wander over. |
