This final lock leaves the canal at sea level, though a seventh lock at the mouth of Glasson Basin allows for tidal fluctuation.
Thurnham Mill, out of view to the immediate right of the photo, was fed by canal water. Restored, it's a hotel and restaurant now, presumably not using canal water.
