At 41 miles, the main pound of the Lancaster Canal is the longest single section (i.e. on one level, without locks) in the UK. However, the drop to Glasson Dock involves six locks over its three miles. This photo is taken from the footbridge of the second; the first is visible by Junction Bridge in the background. For obvious reasons, use of the top gates is restricted – the keys are available from British Waterways.
