Castle Hill, seen from Meeting House Lane, Lancaster, UK, 15/05/04
In the immediate foreground is the parapet of the road bridge over the railway; the roof behind it is the station.
The clean-looking housing in the middle ground is indeed only about ten years old, though again in a traditional style.
Behind is the castle, with the Priory to the left of it.
At the time, I was thinking of the image rather than this accompanying commentary, so a historical building is cut off awkwardly! The one at the extreme right of the image is the Friends Meeting House, built in 1708 to replace another dating from 1677, though George Fox, founder of the Quakers, first preached here in 1652. |
