I hadn't thought of it when I took the picture, but this shows the varied age of the castle. On the left is the John O'Gaunt Gateway, built in 1405. To its right, with the 'gas' lamp and ye olde CCTV cameras, is the Governors' House, added between 1788 and 1823. To the right again is the Witches' Tower, one of the oldest parts of the current structure, dating from the 12th/13th century. |
