Further attractive but totally artificial patchwork in the heather. This is an example of why I tend to find the Forest of Bowland and the Yorkshire Dales more visually appealing than the Lake District or Snowdonia: they're visibly living, working environments. Pristine or 'natural' aren't automatically superior. The low hill in the valley, with the dry stone walls, is Greenside Hill, separating Tarnbrook & Marshaw and hence the two headwater streams of the River Wyre. Whin Fell/Sykes Nab is in the distance (11 km away), forming the eastern side of the Trough of Bowland. |
