The combination of extremely clear cold air and a 250mm lens showed a level of detail I hadn't seen before. The turret on the main tower of Hornby Castle is about 5 m wide, and 14 km away.
The steep slope on the far side of the Lune Valley is Burton Wood, opposite Caton. Lancaster is on the horizon, just off the left of the image.
