Victoria Monument, Dalton Square, Lancaster, UK in fog, 29 November, 2008
The lower section of the limestone plinth is surrounded by bronze bas-reliefs on the flat faces, depicting numerous eminent Victorians, plus statues on the corners: female allegories of 'Justice', 'Liberty', 'Truth' and 'Wisdom' with associated putti. The result is a bit too frenetic for my taste. |
