View west and north from the summit of Pen-y-ghent, Yorkshire Dales National Park, UK, 26 July, 2008

The profile of Ingleborough is obvious, directly above this text, but our next destination, Whernside, was hidden in cloud (again...). If you scroll a little to the right, you'll see see an unnamed circular pool near Hull Pot; Whernside is on the horizon directly above them. The Ribblehead Viaduct isn't visible (without zooming-in further), which may be some indication of the distance we'd yet to walk.
The eroded main path down from the summit (part of the Pennine Way) can be seen towards the right of the image, but that heads back to Horton in Ribblesdale, so Three Peaks walkers turn off it at the foot of the Pen-y-ghent Side cliff (clearer in the next image), heading in a roughly straight line (from this viewpoint, anyway) towards Ribblehead and the start of the Whernside ascent. One can readily visualise the fairly direct route on to Ingleborough. The final stage is another reasonably straight path from the summit plateau across the limestone pavement at Sulber back to Horton, just visible at the extreme left of this image.
