Langthwaite Water Treatment Works, east of Lancaster, Lancashire, UK, 29 June, 2008
The filter house seems to be still in use after more than eighty years; or rather, the building plus more recent extensions now accommodate modern machinery, replacing the original plant.
Its function is to treat water abstracted from Thirlmere and Haweswater in the Lake District, removing Cryptosporidium and harmful metals. |
