Swaintley Hill seen from Roeburndale Road, Caton Moor, near Lancaster, Lancashire, UK, 7 June, 2008
The near-perfectly circular sheepfold at the summit is believed to have been a Saxon lookout post. It's less certain whether the hemispherical lump itself is artificial or a natural feature of glacial origin.
I've passed the hill fairly regularly for almost fifteen years, but hadn't noticed until today that the fallen tree seems to be thriving.
