As catholicism became more accepted, worshippers built a church, school and priest's house in the 1820s on land donated by the local squire. Renovation, including as recently as 1999, didn't elaborate its stark exterior – my initial impression was of a barn. The cynical might note that, in contrast, the priest received a rather impressive house.... |
