A school opened in the large detached building in 1684, funded by the bequest of John Brabin, a cloth merchant and owner of a local dyehouse, who wished to provide poor children with clothing, education and apprenticeships. The Endowed School moved to larger premises, just off the left of the image, in 1880 and remains in use as one of the small village's two primary schools. |
