Statue in St. Hubert's churchyard, Dunsop Bridge, Lancashire, UK, 31 May, 2008
Construction of the church and nearby school was funded by Col. Charles Towneley, allegedly from the winnings of his racehorse.
This angel watches over his family tomb, prominently located directly outside the church's apse. It wouldn't be out-of-place in an urban cemetery and probably looked fine in the sculptor's studio, but here in very rural Lancashire it's extraordinary, bordering on ostentatious. |
