Jackdaw Hole, Horton Moor, near Horton in Ribblesdale, Yorkshire Dales National Park, UK, 24 May, 2008

I wonder how many hikers on the Pennine Way, including those completing the Yorkshire Three Peaks route, stop to look into this walled-off copse just off the main path, and see this large ~10 m deep shaft.

Presumably, Jackdaw Hole was created when the ceiling of a large cave collapsed, much like Hull Pot, a little over a kilometre to the south-east. There are passages leading off the main chamber, but I was unable to climb down without ropes (I did try).
