Wagon Road, Lower Dolphinholme, Wyresdale, Lancashire, UK, 12 May, 2008

This is the lower part of Dolphinholme, which developed in the 18th and 19th Centuries in the narrow valley of the River Wyre around the world's first mechanised worsted spinning mill, and which is not named after a marine mammal....
The entire village, including the 'Upper' part which later expanded beyond the lip of the valley (and which is now the main village) is designated as a Conservation Area "of special architectural or historic interest", but administration is split between Lancaster City Council on this, the northern, side of the bridge and Wyre Borough Council on the south; the latter section is well-documented, but though I think some or all of the workers' cottages and the converted warehouse on this side of the river may be Listed Buildings, I don't know which.
