Apart from isolated farmhouses, there's little more to Conder Green than the Stork Hotel and Conder Green Farm, to the immediate left of this photo. The coaching inn has been here for centuries, at least since 1660. The current name dates from the 19th Century, as storks appear on the family crest of the then-owners of the estate. Despite, or perhaps because of its relatively remote, rural setting, The Stork remains popular especially with those driving the few miles from Lancaster for Sunday lunch. I've only eaten here once, but it seemed pretty good. |
