This 10m-tall structure, part-signpost, part- art installation (it's 'The Hook', by Stephen Broadbent, and depicts a stylised fishing rod) was new to me today. It indicates the recently-renovated mini-park and playground.

Truckloads of sand from elsewhere gave Morecambe the illusion of a sandy beach last year but, as this photo demonstrates, winter winds are rapidly relocating it inland.

The Polo Tower is still in the background – it hasn't operated since 2000, but no-one has got round to removing it yet.
