One of the more ornate buildings in Lancaster, constructed in 1901 for a building society. This beehive appears on at least two other ex-building society buildings in Lancaster, reflecting the saving and collectivisation ethic of the organisation. I think it's a generic symbol, rather than being a specific society's emblem. The rose represents Lancashire.
