Warton Crag is an isolated hill visible from most of the Morecambe Bay region yet within twenty minutes walk of Warton village. These characteristics mean it has been part of a nationwide network of beacon fires since at least the 13th Century. I understand it's still in use, celebrating such events as the turn of the millennium.
