Inside Castell Dolwyddelan, Gwynedd, UK, 11 August, 2007
The current flat roof encloses space for two storeys and a cellar (the upper floor has obviously gone). However, the original walls were lower, enclosing a pitched roof which began just above the fireplace. The upper window and the one in the previous image date from later in the 13th Century, when the height of the keep was increased, or perhaps from the 19th Century reinterpretation.
As a rough indication of scale, the top of the stone over the fire is about 2 m above the floor. |
