Main approach to Dolwyddelan Castle, Gwynedd, UK, 11 August, 2007
Though lacking the sheer cliff of the south-eastern side, as seen in an earlier photo, the northern side of the castle is protected by a naturally steep slope accentuated by a ditch cut into the rock (possibly the source of building stone?). There was also a curtain wall between here and the keep, though that obviously wasn't renovated in the 19th Century. |
