I'd presumed that this was a limestone quarry, but the rock is a coarser sandstone (a greywacke), used in road construction. It's known locally as 'Ingleton Granite', but definitely isn't igneous! The trees immediately beyond the far side of the quarry are in the valley cut by the River Doe, and presumably overlook Snow Falls. Twisleton Scar End is at the upper right of this photo, with the entrance to Kingsdale behind. |
