Pilling Windmill, Dam Side, Pilling, the Fylde, Lancashire, UK, 5 May, 2007

I was a little surprised to see this, as the original cap was removed in ~1963 and I'm accustomed to seeing just the white tower.

The 'Lancashire boat top' cap was designed by a traditional millwright to match that of Marsh Mill in Thornton Cleveleys, ~10 km away, as the two mills were built by Ralph Slater at the start of the 19th Century. It was installed on 2 February, 2007 (within two hours, apparently), its 5.5 m height restoring Pilling Mill's status as the tallest windmill on the Fylde.
