The 17th Century inn is a landmark on the Yorkshire Three Peaks route, marking the end of the Whernside path and beginning of the Ingleborough section. It was also popular stop for bikers (recreational riders, not Hell's Angels!) until the late Nineties, when new management decided to chase the families-and-pub-food market instead, somewhat killing the character.
