St James' Church, Burton-in-Kendal, Cumbria, UK, 13 April, 2007
The church is Norman, though in classic 'Washington's hatchet' fashion, peacemeal repair and extension means only the lower part of the tower remains from that 11th Century building; there's one 13th Century window, but otherwise the current church dates from 1844 (renovated 1872), retaining 14th-16th Century details. |
