This view towards the market cross (previous image) probably hasn't changed much since the Georgian era.
The 'Kings Arms' pub, on the left, opened as a major coaching inn in 1763, serving the Lancaster-Kendal route. That status is long gone, of course, though one could argue that the nearby motorway services is comparible.
