According to the proprietors of the hotel now occupying the complex, this is "Britain's only intact medieval style castle". That's 'mediaeval-style', but not actually 13th-15th Century: the roughly pentagonal Peckforton Castle was built for John Tollemache, MP for Cheshire South (later the first Baron Tollemache) between 1844 and 1851. It's still a splendid achievement, and is now a Grade 1 Listed building.
