Looking uphill from the entrance of the George & Dragon Hotel (previous image).
The memorial fountain on the right is to Adam Sedgwick (1785-1873, as the inscription states), the pioneering geologist, born here as the vicar's son. He went on to be Woodwardian Professor of Geology at Trinity College, Cambridge yet died as Canon of Norwich Cathedral – no conflict between science and religion for him, then.
The alley to the immediate right of the memorial leads to the church.
Slightly unclear in this image, the pale blue sign at the end of the street is that of the Sun Inn, Dent's other pub, which is also owned by Dent Brewery. I haven't visited for a couple of years, but I recall the food being okay.
