I presume this is a conservation area, with the external appearences of the buildings and even the cobbled street preserved as they've looked for centuries.
Main Street continues round to the right, towards the post office.
One can't read the text of the sign, but the focus of this image is the Grade II Listed George & Dragon Hotel, owned by the local Dent Brewery.
Note the clematis (I think) and black drainpipe on the left, as details to identify this viewpoint in the next photo.
