St Andrew's Church, Dent, Cumbria, UK, 9 November, 2006
The original Norman church was rebuilt in 1417, but was so badly damaged by an earthquake as to require rebuilding again in 1590. The Dent Fault remains active; England's most severe earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale, was recorded here in 1970.
Further restoration work in 1787 and 1889 resulted in the church's current appearence, though Norman features remain. |
