This is a Grade 1 Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) containing a wide range of native trees, including rare species.
The photo emphasises the steep-sided, sinuous nature of the valley, a product of relatively soft sandstone/shale bedrock and glacial meltwater torrents ~10,000 years ago.
The camping barn is just beyond the stand of trees on the valley floor, themselves colonising an ancient river deposit.
