Garstang canal basin, Lancashire, UK, 15 October, 2006
Lancaster Canal opened in 1797 for freight transport, so this large basin was included for transshipment of goods at Garstang. The buildings on the left, the tithe barn, are rather older, having been constructed in 1710 to store corn. 'Th'Owd Tithebarn' is now a restaurant and pub. |
