Detail of Garstang Town Hall, Lancashire, UK, 15 October, 2006
"The jubilee of Queen Victoria was loyally celebrated in this town on Monday June 20, 1887."
'Loyally celebrated'. I doubt that phrase would be chosen nowadays. In fact, I don't recall any plaques or monuments specifically acknowledging the current Queen's diamond jubilee in 2003.
Note the shamrock, rose and thistle in the balcony railing, denoting Ireland, England and Scotland as the (then) component parts of the United Kingdom – omitting Wales. |
