The proportions of the 46 m (150') -tall octagonal spire seem wrong somehow, the taper beginning lower than one would expect. The visual effect is of a short witch in a tall hat.
Actually, the most direct entrance, in the north wall of the tower (previous image), closest to the Victorian lych gate and more recent car park, isn't the main entrance, as I initially thought. As one can see, the porch is on the opposite, southern, side, facing away from the village. I wonder why. |
