It's difficult to appreciate that apart from a few fragments of walls the chapter house is the only remaining part of a substantial mediæval abbey. The cow is resting in what was the cloisters adjoining a narrow cruciform church to the left. The infirmary hall was to the right of the chapter house. Remember, the entrance to the chapter house was an internal door within the overall structure, and opened into the Canons' dormitory
