Wall crossing near Clapham, North Yorkshire, UK, 30 April, 2006
Now that's a stile – I think they're railway sleepers set into the wall. At the time, I thought this would be better suited to the high-traffic popular routes up Ingleborough than a relatively little-known footpath around the back of Clapdale Wood, only used by those who, like me, object to paying for the 'nature trail'. Yet even these steps are visible worn, and the more usual type of rungs would be easier to replace whenever necessary. |
