Apparently, the eponymous Stone resembles a church ('kirk'), but I couldn't tell which it is from here. It's at ~455 m asl, so I'd ascended ~410 m from Ambleside. Not bad by bike, but I was slightly tired, and wasn't immediately inclined to walk across to the Stone.
The peak in the background is Place Fell, which isn't remotely close as it looks (weird telephoto effect) – see the next photo.
