Despite its size, I still find it difficult to reconcile the view from here with the view from the top, of a full-size canal and towpath, 19 m (62') above the River Lune. Since you ask, the ~180 m (~600') long aqueduct was designed by John Rennie according to classical principles and built by Alexander Stevens & Son for £48,000 between 1794-6, opening in 1797. |
