Leck Beck Head, Casterton Fell, above Kirkby Lonsdale, Cumbria, UK, 17 December, 2005

As the name suggests, this is the head of Leck Beck, where underground watercourses emerge as a year-round surface channel. Upstream of this point, the (dry unless the caves are already flooded!) river is known as Ease Gill, from which the famous cave system (the most extensive in the UK and 11th in the world, with about 70 km of known passages) takes its name. Indeed, there are several pot holes within his field of view.
