The three storey pele tower was built in the 15th Century by the Harrington family. The adjoining farmhouse dates from the 19th Century. Though the roof parapet and corner turrets may seem to be ruined, the overall structure was repaired relatively recently by English Heritage, which also replaced the flat roof with a pitched one better able to stand the weather.
Most pele towers were isolated and independent, but Wraysholme Tower was part of a defensive ring of towers in the area, which also included Arnside, Beetham and Hazelslack.
