Sunderland* is frequently cut off from the rest of the district at high tide, as the access road across the saltmarsh is submerged. The tide even bisects the hamlet itself, as vehicle access from First Terrace (behind the camera) to Second Terrace is across the shingle beach, below the high water mark. *: Commonly known as 'Sunderland Point', though that really only refers to the uninhabited tip of the peninsula. |
