Weathervane, Yealand Redmayne, near Carnforth, Lancashire, UK, 30 May, 2005

Yealand has existed since at least the 11th Century Domesday survey, but was split into Yealand Redmayne (named after the lord of the manor) and Yealand Conyers (in the 13th Century, the daughter of Adam de Yealand, Sheriff of the County, married Robert de Conyers).
Slight confession: I forgot the main historical significance of the dual village, and cycled past the Quaker Friends' Meeting House without stopping for a photograph. George Fox preached here in 1652, an event instrumental in the foundation of the Society of Friends. The Meeting House itself was built forty years later, and is still in use.
