Not exactly a cheery view: the security fences surrounding the prison for under-18s, with the disused Moor (psychiatric) Hospital in the background. This side of Lancaster has always been used for the less pleasant requirements of the county town - burials (including a plague pit), executions, the mental hospital, and now HM Prison (YOI) Lancaster Farms. In ~1998, whilst I was writing a PhD thesis with the, er, financial assistance of the state, the Employment Agency obliged me to attend a job interview here, to become the prison's internal postman, distributing post to the individual blocks. That would have been a novel addition to my CV, but strangely I failed to impress the interviewing panel. |
