Famously (well, locally), Williamson Park was created at the end of the 19th Century by landscaping quarries which had provided stone for the city's major civic buildings. The result is a very limited amount of level ground and several semi-enclosed grottos such as this, which make excellent open-air theatres for the annual 'Play In The Park' promenade performances. |
