River Lune near Caton, Lancashire, UK, 19 March, 2005
This photo looks directly across the valley; the river flows away from the camera, heading to the right i.e. 'upstream' for a few hundred metres until it passes a sudden 180° bend and flows back in the correct direction against the far side of the valley. The white riverside fence is just visible, 100m away in a straight line, but ten times as far away by river.
The nearest line of trees in the background indicates a previous course of the river. |
