Pennine Tower, Forton Services, near Lancaster, UK, 27 February, 2005
The tower, which was originally a restaurant when the motorway services opened in 1965, was designed to resemble an air traffic control tower. Plainly architectural tastes have changed – that rather uncompromising 'futuristic' aesthetic probably wouldn't be even considered nowadays, never mind receive planning consent.
I understand the tower now houses offices. |
